The Yays Have It?

I am perpetually confused by how to spell exclamations of joy, namely "Yay!" Is it "yay" or "yeah" or "yae" or "Ya"???? I spell it "yay" and I use "yeah" like this:

"Yeah, but I don't really enjoy the whole idea of hankies."

Or, "Hell, yeah, I want pie!"

So, which is it? Whose gonna look that up? Yay (or yeah or yae or whatever) for you!

I'm the same as you. YAY!! means yay. and Yeah, means yes.
Well done on the workout...and the weights and lunges etc. go you!

I vote for "Yay" as Hurrah, and "yeah", as yes. But I've seen "yea" as both hurrah, and yes, so it's confusing. I used to be really good at spelling, but I find myself wondering about lots of words anymore. Was thinking I could start a blog on the evils of aging.

PS: and what about Yah as Yay since hurrah is spelled with the rah at the end? But that makes me want to say ya - like the kids do when you really want them to say "yes".

I am horrible at spelling but I do "know" that YAY means YIPPEE! and Yeah means yes. It's an opinion thing but since I'm usually right, I'd go with Yay and Yeah :-)

Oh no...I think I have been using my expressions wrong my whole life. I use yeah as yippee and yes. Oh the humility!

Yay I am a loser.
Yeah I am a loser.
you pick which one you want to be right!

I was reading last night before going to sleep and on the one page I actually made it through before nodding off I saw a sentence with a Yay! And it was used as yippee!

I think those things are edited by professionals so I am going with that as my final answer. And since I am a women I can admit that I was wrong. Thanks for learnin' me something new!

Thanks, Lisa, for finding the professional answer. And, if you're an idiot for not knowing how to spell "yay" then I am a super moron, cuz I screw up spelling all the time.

Yea - Julie, that one is a puzzler. Darn English language.

And if it makes you feel better, Lisa, I have just noticed that I used "whose" incorrectly in the original post.

Whose going to look that up? I think that should be "Who's" as in who is. Though I could have said, "Whose job will it be to look that up?" Again, darn English language!
